New independent enters race for Moore

Community group Voices of Moore has announced its endorsement of Nathan Barton as the community independent candidate for the Federal seat of Moore, after an extensive search and selection process.

“We are thrilled to present Nathan Barton as a new option for Moore voters,” said Voices of Moore spokesperson Kevin O’Keefe.

“Our Community Listening Report showed that the people of Moore want genuine representation from someone with integrity, who represents the views of the community ahead of the views of a political party,” said Mr O’Keefe.

Mr Barton is a former Army Reservist, small business owner and mental health professional, and a resident of Moore.

“Through my work in both the military and as a psychologist, I've learned that strength and understanding go hand in hand,” said Mr Barton.

“Whether leading in a reconnaissance unit or counselling veterans and community members, I've seen how real solutions emerge when we truly listen to each other.”

The division of Moore covers much of Perth’s northern suburbs. In 2022 the Liberal Party won Moore by a 0.66 per cent margin.

“The major parties are becoming increasingly disconnected from everyday Australians, drifting toward ideological extremes and political point-scoring rather than finding practical solutions,” said Mr Barton.

“We need leadership that can bring people together to tackle the real challenges facing our community – from cost of living pressures to improving mental health.”
